The Station 603 comes from a love of living spaces where we know that the personal touch makes the difference. Our owner and founder, Janice Abdo-Rott comes from an artistic and architectural background. In 1984 she began building her first company, Creative Landscapes. With Creative Landscapes, Janice learned the value of her personal engagement in the design of everything from gardens to elaborate outdoor living spaces. Having always intended on incorporating a plant nursery into her work, that dream greatly developed with the purchasing of the old Village of Manlius train station in 2012.

The Manlius train station dates back to 1871 when it was built along the Chenango Railroad Line. The Chenango Railroad Line operated just over 43 miles of track from Syracuse, over the hills through Fayetteville, Manlius, and Cazenovia to Earlville on the Madison and Chenango County border. It eventually became part of the West Shore Line and later part of the New York Central System. The train ran through the Manlius station until 1956, nine years before the whole of the line ended in 1965. For the next half century, the old station building sporadically house small offices until Janice and her husband John purchased it in 2012. The exterior of the building had not much been changed, though it took some years for John and Janice to restore and revitalize the interior. The modernity of drop-ceilings and commercial carpeting were torn away and the hidden beauty of the old building was revealed and, finally, compounded. Far from a dusty museum, the spartan elegance of the nineteenth century village train station is colorfully accentuated by Janice and John’s energizing renovations.

The Station 603 opened to the public in 2017 as a home and garden shop specializing in domestic décor for both the interior and exterior of a home. Proud to be situated within walking distance of the Manlius Village Center, The Station 603 makes it a priority to support local business and stock as many products local to Central New York as possible. Janice’s collection includes eye-catching wall-hanging, colorful flower pots, cheeky kitchen goods, artisanal cosmetics, decadent scented candles, and much more. The old station master’s window has been converted into a secondary entryway that looks right out onto a plant nursery set where the train tracks once lay. This commercial nursey continues the vibrant theme of the interior shop with a collection of annuals, perennials, shrubbery, pots, and exterior décor for sale. Behind the store and nursery is the operating headquarters for Creative Landscapes and the offices where Janice personally oversees both businesses.

The Station 603 is an open book about our history and is happy to be a facet of Central New York living. We hope to see you soon.
